Naming Convention for Image Export

For the image export, you can define how the exported files should be named. The naming convention for exported images used by ZEN is described here. For the naming convention of the xml files created by the image export, see Naming of xml Files for Exported Images.

Short Naming Format

For ZEN, this is the default naming convention and always applied when Short Format is activated.

The name of the exported file follows a convention: <Prefix>_<Suffix>.<File Format>. Example: TMA1_m1.tif
If there are no dimensions, the image name does not contain a suffix. Example: TMA1.tif.

Image name of exported file

Description of the exported image

<Prefix>_m<no.>

Contains re-tiled data. The count starts from top left to right and in the next row again from left to right.

<Prefix>_c<no.>

Contains channels. Note that if you have activated Use Channel Names the actual names of the channels are written into the file name of the exported image.

<Prefix>_t<no.>

Contains time series.

<Prefix>_z<no.>

Contains z-stacks.

<Prefix>_ORG

Contains original data.

The prefix is the image name you entered in the Prefix field. Per default, the prefix field contains the image name. The suffix contains all image information. Example: If you export an z-stack with channel 1 and channel 2, and activate Crop to Selection and Generate New Tiles, the image name of one exported image could be: TMA1_z02c1+2m1.tif

Long Naming Format

The long naming format contains all the information of the short format and additionally the size of the image in x and y in pixel as well as the start positions of x and z for the export.

Parameter

Description

<Prefix>_x<no1-no2>

Displays the x position and size. The first number (no.1) indicates the start of the (subset) image in relation to the coordinate system of the original image, the second number (no.2) indicates the total width of the exported (subset) image in pixel.

<Prefix>_y<no1-no2>

Displays the y position and size. The first number (no.1) indicates the start of the (subset) image in relation to the coordinate system of the original image, the second number (no.2) indicates the total height of the exported (subset) image in pixel.

Example 1: If you export your entire image which has a width and height of 1024 pixel, the name of the exported image could be: TMA1_z02c1x0-1024y0-1024.tif.

Example 2: If you only export a subset with a rectangle drawn into the image, the name of the exported image could be: TMA1_z02c1x241-692y49-448.tif.
This means, the exported subset image starts at the x value 241 of the original image and has a width of 692 pixel.

Naming of xml Files for Exported Images

If you select to also create a xml file, the image export generates two files, one contains general information about the image, the second contains the image metadata. Both xml files have a distinct naming, depending on which format you have selected in the export.

The long format naming for the xml files includes the file type suffix in the xml titles as well as metadata for the metadata xml, the short format naming for the xml files excludes the file type suffix from the xml titles as well as shortens metadata to meta for the metadata xml.
