New Features & Improvements

Base Software

Free Mode Interface

The Documents Area has been extended with an option to switch to a structured data panel when using Project Folder mode.

The data panel allows you configurable structuring of data with a flexible folder setup.

The data structure in ZEN core is synchronized with the folder structure on your disk.

Interactive Measurements

Two new AI-assisted tools based on Segment Anything are available for interactive measurements: AI-assisted “fast” and AI-assisted “precise”. These tools enable fast and precise interactive segmentation for measurements and the immediate generation of results tables. AI-assisted “fast” is included in the basic ZEN core installation, while AI-assisted “precise” you can install separately via the ZEISS Microscopy Installer.

Docker Desktop

ZEN core automatically starts and stops Docker Desktop upon startup and shutdown to support smooth operation. The automatic startup you can disable in the General Options.

ZEN core 3.14 requires Docker Desktop for Instance segmentation and container-based applications:

  • ZEN Toolkit AI: Intellesis Denoising
  • ZEN Toolkit AI: Intellesis Segmentation

Docker Desktop and the corresponding container packages are available through the ZEISS Microscopy Installer.

AI Toolkit

Intellesis Denoising

Intellesis Denoising has been introduced as a new AI-based denoising solution based on container technology.

The CAREamics library from the Jug Group at Human Technopole has been integrated.

Advanced AI denoising features are supported, including 3D denoising for more consistent results in z-stacks, N2V2 for reducing checkerboard artifacts, and StructN2V for reducing correlated noise.

The functionality is fully integrated into image processing, and the OAD scripting environment.

The training of Intellesis Denoising models now requires an installation of Docker Desktop.

Intellesis Segmentation

The training of Intellesis segmentation models and the inference of Intellesis, arivis Cloud, and third-party semantic segmentation models in Image Processing, Toolkit 2D, and Material Apps now require Docker Desktop.

Supported hardware includes CPU-based systems and NVIDIA GPUs with Compute Capability 7.5 or higher.

Material Apps

Grain Size Analysis

A generic grain boundary detection model (GeGra) licensed from Matworks has been integrated for grain size analysis applications. The new AI model has been trained on a wide range of samples and allows out-of-the box AI analysis for a wide range of customers.

Technical Cleanliness Analysis (TCA)

For Technical Cleanliness Analysis (TCA) the EDF-images of the largest particles are now stored to the archive in CZI format and as zipped file.

arivis Hub DMS & ZEN Data Storage

arivis Hub DMS integration

You can use ZEN core now together with arivis Hub DMS to automatically store acquired images, generated results and templates on a central server or in the cloud.

arivis Hub DMS allows you to efficiently organize and share your imaging data. With multiple analysis workers deployed in parallel, you can scale up your image analysis to get results faster. Additionally, the arivis Hub DMS enables you to completely automate your image analysis workflow – from data ingestion to the final results.

Discontinuation of ZEN Data Storage

ZEN Data Storage will be discontinued with the release of ZEN core 3.14. It is replaced by arivis Hub DMS, which provides additional capabilities (see above).

ZEN Data Storage will still be maintained and supported for 2 years starting with the official release date of ZEN core 3.14.

The option to select ZEN Data Storage as archive in ZEN core will be removed in one year (with the release of ZEN core 3.16).
