Getting started & First Steps

Starting Software

  1. The software and all required licenses have been installed.
  1. Double-click the program icon on your desktop.
  2. The software starts, and the login screen is displayed.
  3. In case that you log on the first time on this system or that the terms and conditions have been changed since your last log on, the Terms and Conditions Agreement dialog opens.
  4. Agree to the terms and conditions by activating the checkbox. Optionally, you can also allow to collect data for an anonymous usage analysis and/or for personalized marketing. Note: You can change the optional settings anytime in the General Options.
  5. Click on the profile you want to work with, e.g. ZEN core. The available profile depends on your licenses and system.
  6. During the program start the hardware settings will be initialized.
  7. On the login screen, click on your name in the list of users, and enter your password. Click Login.
If you forgot your password or do not know your user name, contact the System Administrator or Supervisor.
  8. If installed with the software, the video screen for the What's New video is displayed in front of the software.
  9. Decide whether to view the current release features or not. To view it later, select Title Bar > Help > What's New.
  1. The Home screen is displayed. You can start working with the software.

Working with ZEN starter

You can use the software without any license. The software is then run as the free version called ZEN starter with limited functionality. Nevertheless, you can still perform many typical actions, for example:

  • Load and view existing microscope images
  • Acquire images (Manual EDF, Panorama)
  • Perform interactive measurements (reduced set of tools available)
  • Create reports

Closing Software

  1. Click Home.
  2. The home screen is displayed.
  3. If you have unsaved documents (e.g. templates, analysis results, or reports), choose whether to save or discard them.
  4. Click Close in the upper right corner of the program window.
  5. The software will close. Any unsaved data is discarded.
  6. If desired, turn off the microscope hardware.

Consuming Floating Licences

If you are using a license server to enable floating licenses on the client system, you have to select the toolkits which you are using with floating licenses for the selected profile.

Under Local Toolkits, all toolkits that are permanently licensed and available on the local client system are listed for a read-only information.

  1. The client system is connected to the license server.
  1. Double-click the program icon on your desktop.
  2. The software starts and the login screen is displayed.
  3. To select the profile, under Select a Profile, select the profile you want to use, e.g. ZEN core. The available profiles depend on your licenses and system.
Note: In case that all licenses for the selected profile are in use, you cannot consume the floating licence and therefore not use the profile. This is indicated by the warning icon in front of the profile name. Hover over the warning icon to display a tooltip showing the hostnames of the machines currently consuming the license, enabling you to contact those users and request license release if necessary.
  4. Under Floating Toolkits, all toolkits that are currently selected for the profile are displayed.
  5. To change the toolkit selection, click Select Toolkits.
  6. All available floating toolkits are displayed and can be selected by activating the corresponding checkbox(es).
  7. If the floating toolkit(s) can be consumed, the Start ZEN <application> button becomes active. Check the Availability column if the license is available.
  8. To save the current floating toolkit selection, click Save Selection.
  9. The next time you start the software and select the profile, this selection will be preselected.
  10. To discard your changes, click Discard Changes.
  11. Your changes are discarded.
  12. Click Start ZEN <application>.
  1. The Home screen is displayed. You can start working with the selected profile and toolkit(s). In case that you close the application, the consumed floating licenses are released. Note: If you do not want this dialog to be shown in the future, activate Do not show this dialog at system start.
