Software and ecosystem integration

To download and use instance segmentation AI models for image segmentation in ZEN, ZEN core or arivis Pro, Docker Desktop is required on your computer. You have to install Docker Desktop by yourself as it is not provided by the ZEISS Microscopy Installer. After installation, register and sign in with an account. Note that Docker Desktop requires a paid subscription for commercial use, so you need to choose the appropriate license. For information on how to install Docker Desktop, always refer to the latest documentation provided by Docker, see Install Docker Desktop on Windows or generally Docker Docs. Docker Desktop has its own system requirements, which are also detailed in their documentation.

Windows requirements and hardware recommendations

As of February 2023 there are the following system requirements:

• Windows 10 64-bit: Home or Pro 21H1 (build 19043) or higher, or Enterprise or Education 20H2 (build 19042) or higher
• BIOS-level hardware virtualization support must be enabled
• 64-bit processor with Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)
• 4 GB RAM
• NVIDIA GPU with CUDA Compute Capability ≥ 7.0 (Volta or newer) (≥8 GB GPU Memory)
• The WSL 2 feature on Windows has to be enabled (see more info here). WSL 2 is available for Windows 10 Version 1903 or higher. If your version of Windows does not support the WSL 2 feature, Hyper-V and Containers Windows Features must be enabled.

If you cannot use WSL 2, the resources allocated to Docker are not automatically managed by Windows and might not be big enough in certain situations. In such a case, you can also adapt the resource allocation manually.
Please note that if Hyper-V is enabled in Windows it may slightly slow down your PC system, potentially leading to longer processing times or reduced acquisition performance. To avoid any possible issues, it is recommended to run image analysis on a dedicated and powerful processing station separate from the actual image acquisition PC.

Hardware recommendation

• ZEISS MidRange Workstation or better/equivalent
• 64 GB RAM or more (32 RAM dedicated to Docker Desktop)
